Meet the Star-Studded Cast of "In the Heights" (2024)

Though he had a starring role in the musical's original Broadway cast, Miranda plays a small part in the film adaptation. Well, on-screen at least. In his next project, a movie adaptation of Jonathan Larson's Tick, Tick…Boom!, Miranda will make his directorial debut.

The Hamilton alum plays Usnavi—the bright-eyed bodega owner who is preparing to create his own legacy. Ramos recently filmed the sci-fi movie Distant, and he's gearing up to star in the next Transformers movie. Fun fact: He's engaged to fellow actress Jasmine Cephas Jones who he met when they were both in Hamilton.

One of In The Height’s leading ladies, Barrera began acting in Mexican telenovelas, such as Siempre Tuya Acapulco and Tanto Amor. She also starred in the Starz drama series Vida. Next, she's heading to Netflix to star in a new drama, Breathe, and she has also just become the first Latina face of Clinique.

The Emmy-award-winning actor and TV veteran (NYPD Blue, The West Wing, Dexter) is a New York native. "I'm so happy that they fought hard in terms of doing it actually on streets that were in Washington Heights. We didn't eat catering, we didn't have movie catering. We were going to restaurants there in the community because... they knew we were there and they were so supportive on every level. I can't imagine having shot it, like, 'Oh yeah, we got brownstones in Canada and Toronto, we can shoot.' Nah," the actor told People.

Leslie Grace may be a rookie in the movie business, but she’s no stranger to the spotlight. As Oprah put it, “her day job is being a pop star.” Before In the Heights, Grace already had two studio albums under her belt. Her singing and songwriting skills prepared her for what would inevitably be a career-changing role as Nina Rosario—the ambitious student who struggles to find her path. And it’s safe to say that she nailed it (yes, we’re talking about that breathtaking balcony scene).

Olga Merediz who reprises her role as Abuela Claudia, has been involved with In the Heights from the very beginning. Before the musical hit became a hit, she told Entertainment Weekly that she worked with Lin-Manuel Miranda during the readings and workshops in the early 2000s. Merediz plays the neighborhood matriarch and wonderfully sings "Paciencia y Fe."

Sonny de la Vega, played by 16-year-old Gregory Diaz IV, is a charming, smart kid who wants to go to college as a DREAMer. His role adds an important plotline about the realities of immigration in the United States. Diaz also played Luis Acosta in the Netflix comedy-horror film Vampires vs. the Bronx in 2020.

Daphne Rubin-Vega originated the role of Mimi Marquez in Broadway's Rent. In a feature for Town & Country, Rubin-Vega described Daniela as the one to go to “when you need a pep talk, when you need counsel, when you need to hear the truth."

We were introduced to Dascha Polanco in the Netflix series Orange is the New Black, and subsequently When They See Us. The star continues to be part of important representation stories now with the Heights. She plays Cuca, who is rarely seen in the film without her friends Daniela and Carla—bringing to life a fiery, hilarious trio. “We’re like a really balanced triple threat,” she told Vanity Fair. Stephanie Beatriz plays Detective Rosa Diaz in the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She also had a role in Modern Family. And for the Heights, she plays Carla, who is joined at the hip to her castmates Dascha Polanco and Daphne Rubin-Vega.
